Adult Basic Education
Adult Basic Education (ABE) is a program funded by the state of New Mexico and federal government under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. ABE provides free tuition, books and materials, and access to other college services like educational advisement, library access, and tutoring assistance to better assist adult learners with the following:
- General Equivalency Exam (GED)
- English as a Second Language (ESL)
- Civics and Citizenship
- Literacy and Numeracy
- Writing Basics
- Life Skills for Student Success
- Job Search Skills/Career Preparation
- Basic Computer Skills
Program Vision
The Adult Basic Education (ABE) program at Northern New Mexico College will be recognized as a highly valued, quality provider of instruction to adults who reside within north-central New Mexico and a leader in the field of ABE programs in the State of New Mexico.
Program Goals
- To assist in the college's overall mission to provide accessible, affordable, community-based quality learning opportunities that meet the education, employment, and enrichment needs of our culturally diverse region.
- To provide quality instruction that incorporates best practices research-based methodologies and curricula, through the use of our state of the art learning technologies.
- To ultimately provide students with preparation needed to enter post secondary universities, colleges, or vocational schools.
Our facilities include a computer lab, reading room, and large classrooms that allow students to work independently on improving writing, math, language, as well as basic computer skills. Our main center is located at Northern New Mexico College at the Espanola Campus with sites serving north-central New Mexico including Pojoaque, Abiquiu, Chama, Gallina, Tierra Amarilla, Okay Owingeh, and Santa Clara.
